After a long break due to the Covid-19 pandemic,ROK Cup racers in Thailand finally got back to racing last weekend at the Bira Circuit.Thailad was the first country outside China where a Covid-19 case was detected,but the conutry managed well and kept cases low throughout.Authorities have,however,been very strict on social distance rules and ROK Cup Thailand was among the first sports event to be held again.And in a great way with good grids and exciting races!
Mini Rok and Rookie Rok Krittach Jirayupa,Rookie Rok 2019 champion,was the early pace-setter in Qualifying and with a lap time of 57.869 he secures pole position for the heats.Chanoknan Veeratacha was a close second with just 0.037sec off the top time.In the Rookie Rok(8-10 years old drivers) it was Pojcharaphon Kemphetch(58.540)who was the quickest.The heat saw Jirayupa confirming his form with a win with Aki Jitranuwath moving into 2nd anf Sirikon Klaewkura ending 3rd and showing some serious girlpower!Jirayu Rachatamethakul took the top position in Rookies class.The Pre-finak saw an early breakaway from Jitranuwath who went on to win.Behind him,it was Jirapuya,who would later get disqualified for a technical infringement,allowing Rayan Caretti to take 2nd,having stormed through the field from last position.In Rookie Rok Rachatamethakul once again came out on top ahead of Kunlapat Kunlaboon.In the Final,Caretti continued his great form by taking a dominant win and taking home the first ROK Cup Thailand trophy of 2020!Behind him ,an exciting battle for 2nd position between Jitranuwash,Suksiri,Klaewkrua and Veeratacha went on for most of the race,with Jirapuya joining the battle at the end of the race as well,after starting from the back of the grid.He did take 2nd spot eventually ahead of Klaewkrua.In Rookie Rok it was Rachatamethakul who won again and scored full points to start his campaign for the Rookie Rok title!Kunlaboon and Kemphetch rounded off the Rookie Rok podium.
